Vaccine+

Vaccine+, a branch of the Wellness Hub research program, is an initiative designed to support long-term care home (LTCH) and retirement home (RH) staff and leaders to address vaccine confidence.

Vaccine+ received funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Immunization Partnership Fund to design and develop evidence-based, online and open access COVID-19 and Influenza resources to be used by the LTCH and RH community to improve vaccine confidence and uptake.

In addition to the 2025/26 Vaccine Champions Course, resources included virtual vaccine town halls and other educational resources such as one-pagers tailored to LTCH and RH settings. Enrollment in the project and the course is now closed. However, project resources (i.e., one-pagers, town halls, course) continue to be available and can be found below.

Vaccine Champions Course

This course underwent a major revision in Spring 2025 with some minor updates in Summer 2026. For example, we updated links to websites if they were available, or we provided archived links for historical accuracy. It is possible that some of the specific statistics or information that we present here may have changed as research and/or preparations for the current COVID-19/Influenza season progress. In general, however, the course continues to offer an opportunity to increase preparedness to deal with infectious disease outbreaks in long-term care homes and retirement homes by building vaccine knowledge and confidence, communication skills, and health literacy. Module 2: Outbreak Preparedness

This module describes 3 components of outbreak preparedness (well-being, vaccines, and infection prevention and control practices), and how vaccines fit within outbreak prevention strategies.

Module 3: Vaccine Importance

This module covers what COVID-19 and Influenza are, how the COVID-19 and Influenza vaccines work, as well as the development, safety, and importance of the vaccines.

Module 4: Recent Vaccine Trends

This module provides information on vaccine eligibility and where to get vaccinated, recent vaccine uptake information for the COVID-19 and Influenza vaccines, and reasons why people may not be getting vaccinated.

This module features common questions about the COVID-19 and Influenza vaccines that you may be asked as a vaccine champion, and sample answers for these questions.
